How to Make Family Time Richer, Not Busier

When Eryn Lynum was given a jar of 936 pennies (one penny for each week of her son’s life from birth to age 18), it was a tangible reminder of how fast kids grow up. We only have so much time to teach them, to make memories, and to love them while they are at home. Through very personal stories and hard-earned wisdom, Eryn shows us that while we can’t control time, we can slow it down by living each day intentionally.

As you remove one penny from the jar every week, you’ll discover how to prioritize what really matters–things like making your home richer in laughter, teaching family values in everyday moments, and showing God’s love and grace with every opportunity. Your kids will see how simple choices, like putting the cell phone down and going on a family hike, will make all the difference. Together, you will stretch time to its fullest potential.

“For every mom who feels spent, finished, bankrupt by bedtime. Eryn reminds us with humor, honesty, and relatable experience that what you spent in time, patience, energy, memories, and do-overs was worth every penny. Literally.”–Lisa-Jo BakerPublisher’s Weekly bestselling author of Never UnfriendedSurprised by Motherhood, and We Saved You a Seat

Absolutely LOVE this book! There are so many takeaways and little golden nuggets throughout this entire book. We live in a society where we are barely present, and this is a refreshing reminder of how we can parent intentionally and with purpose. 936 Pennies is so beautifully written, Eryn is a master at making the words float magically on each and every page so that you believe she is talking just to you. Every parent needs a copy of this outstanding book!

This is a wonderful, encouraging books for parents of young children. Eryn tells stories from her own life to demonstrate the importance of being intentional with the short 936 weeks we are given (and even those weeks are not guaranteed) from our child’s birth until their eighteenth birthday. The chapters are short, which is great for busy moms and dads who don’t have a lot of time. I have a bunch of passages marked for further reflection. This book has been challenging me to spend more time outdoors with my kids, to foster a spirit of encouragement in our family, and to put technology in its proper place in our home. I hope she will revisit this topic when her children are older, as I always like to hear the experiences of parents whose children are grown and can now look back and share the wisdom they’ve gleaned.

I received a free copy of this book from Bethany House in exchange for an honest review.

Poignant, practical and powerful. Weaving scriptural truths into her parenting experience, Eryn’s story will encourage and challenge you to live a life of holy intention. Intentional parenting not only brings joy, but focus on God’s purpose to raise up a generation to know and love him. Every chapter is infused with inspiration to change one thing at a time so that the priceless and fleeting gift of childhood turns into treasured memories inspiring the next generation to follow the Lord. I promise you’ll never look at parenting or grand-parenting the same again!

This book has been revolutionary in parenting my three young boys right now. I am not a big reader and this is a book I actually finished! Eryn writes in a such a way that you know she has “been there, done that” and she speaks from experience with great stories, but not in a way where she claims to have it all figured out. She is very much with you in the process of parenting. Her book is relatable and relevant. One of my favorite quotes from the book is, “Many of us, myself included, have fallen prey to the lie that we’re told as parents: We can’t control time. It will always goes by too fast. We can’t slow it down. But we do have the power to control time, and we must—for the sake of our children and our relationship with them….” I have already bought three additional copies of this book and given them away! It is a must read!

I found this book on the shelf at my church. I attended a parenting class at church that approached this topic of keeping track of the weeks left, using our time wisely and that thought stuck with me then out of the blue one day I decided to buy this book and I am so glad I did! Eryn writes with such passion for her children, love for Christ and I can really tell she values the time she gets to spend with those dear to her, no matter how long! I could really relate to her stories and even at times would say out loud “me too!” Or “AMEN”. This book has encouraged me to be a better parent and be more intentional with how I spend my time!! I love this book and recommend it to any parent, no matter how far along on their journey!
